Your exercise library is the core of every program you build in Relay Athletic. This section shows you how to import your existing exercises, create new ones on demand, and customize them to fit your coaching style.
You’ll learn how to bulk import from a spreadsheet, use our AI tools to rapidly generate new exercises, and organize everything using tags and preferred tracking fields.
How exercises work
A well-structured exercise library ensures that your athletes always know exactly what to do and how to log their results. This section covers how exercises function within Relay and how to organize them for rapid program building. The anatomy of an exercise
In Relay, an exercise is a fully customizable template that dictates the athlete’s experience on the floor. Every exercise can be customized with:- Videos: Your own recorded demonstrations or a YouTube link.
- Instructions: Coaching cues and step-by-step form guides.
- Preferred tracking fields: The exact metrics you want the athlete to log (e.g., Weight, Reps, RPE, Time, or Distance).
- Tags: Categories to keep your library organized.
Prepare your exercise tags
Just like tagging your athletes, tagging your exercises is a crucial step for keeping your system organized. Instead of endlessly scrolling through hundreds of movements, a solid tagging system allows you to instantly filter your library when building a workout.Build your library
There are a few ways to populate your exercise library, depending on whether you are migrating from another platform or starting from scratch. Navigate to Exercises in your sidebar to get started.Bulk CSV/Excel import
If you already have a spreadsheet containing your exercise library, you can use the import feature to bring all of these exercises into Relay at once. How to upload:- Click Import in the top-right of the Exercises page.
- Drag and drop your CSV or Excel file, or click to browse.
- Ensure your file contains at least two core columns: Exercise Name and Video Link.
- Confirm the preview matches your desired structure and map the columns accordingly.
- Click Import. Your exercises will immediately populate in your library.
Create any missing exercises on demand
If you are missing exercises or prefer to build your library as you go, you can create them on demand. To make this process incredibly fast, Relay features an AI Exercise Fill tool. How it works:- Click Add Exercise in your library.
- Type in the name of the exercise you want to create (e.g., “DB Bulgarian Split Squat”).
- Click the AI Fill button.
- The system will automatically rapidly generate detailed coaching instructions, form cues, and recommended tracking fields based on the exercise name.
- Review the AI-generated content, tweak it to match your specific coaching voice, add your video link, and click Save.
Customize existing exercises
Whether you imported your exercises or created them from scratch, you can always customize them to fit your exact standards. How to customize:- Click on any exercise in your library to open its profile.
- Update Media: Swap out the default video for a custom YouTube link of you or your staff performing the movement.
- Set Tracking Fields: Define exactly what the athlete needs to log. If it’s a strength movement, set the preferred tracking to Weight and Reps. If it’s a conditioning drill, set it to Time and Distance.
- Apply Tags: Use the tagging window to assign your movement patterns, equipment, and goals (e.g.,
lower body, barbell, strength). - Click Save Changes.
