AI Workout Generation

Instead of building workouts exercise-by-exercise, you can describe an entire workout in natural language and let Relay’s AI create it for you.

Using Text Input

  1. Press R or click the AI button in the workout builder.
  2. Switch to text input mode.
  3. Type a description of the workout you want. For example:
4 sets of 8 bench press at 80kg, then 3x12 lateral raises,
followed by 3x15 cable flyes, superset the last two
  1. The AI generates the full workout structure with blocks, exercises, and sets.

Using Voice Input

  1. Press R or click the microphone button.
  2. Speak your workout description naturally.
  3. A waveform indicator shows you’re recording, with a timer.
  4. Stop recording. The AI processes your voice and generates the workout.
The AI matches exercise names to your existing exercise library. If you say “bench press” and have “Barbell Bench Press” in your library, it will use your version with all its configured tracking fields.

AI Workout Commands

Beyond generating entire workouts, you can use AI to edit existing workouts with natural language commands:

Examples

CommandWhat It Does
”Change all sets to 5x5”Updates every exercise to 5 sets of 5 reps
”Add a warm-up block”Creates a new warm-up block with appropriate exercises
”Increase load by 5kg on squats”Adjusts the load for squat exercises
”Remove the last block”Deletes the final block
”Superset bench press and rows”Groups those exercises into a superset

How It Works

  1. Select an exercise or block (optional, but it gives the AI context).
  2. Press R to activate AI.
  3. Speak or type your edit command.
  4. The AI returns structured operations (add, remove, update) that are applied incrementally to your workout.
  5. All changes can be undone with Cmd/Ctrl+Z if the result isn’t what you wanted.

Tips for Best Results

  • Be specific. “4 sets of 8 barbell back squats at 100kg with 2 min rest” produces better results than “some squats.”
  • Use your exercise names. Reference exercises the way they appear in your library for better matching.
  • Start simple, then adjust. Generate the base workout with AI, then fine-tune set values manually.
  • Default behavior. If you don’t specify sets or reps, the AI defaults to 3 sets of 10 reps.
